WHY JOIN THIS COURSE?
We spend roughly 50% of our time thinking about something other than what we are doing–whether that's thinking about a past memory or planning for a future that may not happen–and can miss the life that is right before us. At the heart of this tendency of mind, is the belief that our happiness is somewhere else other than where we are.
Life can often feel like a constant chase–a chase to find the thing or become the person that will finally bring us the happiness and peace of mind we desire. Yet how often has that thing–that promotion, that purchase, that relationship–brought us lasting happiness? It can make us feel good for a while, but that feeling eventually passes and we are back on the hunt.
If we set up our lives so that we are happy when we get what we want and unhappy when we don’t get what we want, we become dependent on external circumstances being favorable to us and can find it difficult to be with the more uncomfortable and painful experiences that will inevitably show up in our lives. So how can we prepare ourselves to meet the difficult moments in our life AND learn to relish and enjoy the good moments? How can we prepare ourselves to meet the full range of experiences in our lives?
Mindfulness can invite us to step into a new way of living that allows us to be with life just as it is. It is a practice that develops our ability to be aware of and cultivate kindness toward any experience that comes our way. It can help us see that our true peace and joy can be found just where we are.
